Prompt Enhancer: The Focused BoltAI Alternative for Structured Claude Prompts
Looking for a BoltAI alternative? Here’s an honest comparison. BoltAI costs $69 and does everything. Prompt Enhancer costs $29 and does one thing well.
That is not marketing copy. That is the actual difference between these two apps.
What BoltAI is
BoltAI is a native Mac AI client. It gives you a unified workspace for 300+ models — OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, Mistral, local models — with chat threads, thread forking, vision, PDF analysis, and AI-powered dictation. It is well-built and genuinely useful if you want one app to replace your browser tabs for AI.
If you do not already use Claude Code, Cursor, or Claude.ai daily and want a polished AI hub on your Mac, BoltAI is worth looking at.
What Prompt Enhancer is
Prompt Enhancer does not replace your AI client. It fixes the input.
You write a rough draft — anywhere: Claude.ai, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code, Notion, Slack, Linear, even Mail. Press ⌃⌥⌘P. In under 4 seconds your selected text is rewritten in-place using Anthropic’s official XML prompt structure: <role>, <context>, <task>, <output_format>.
No window switching. No copy-paste. The cursor stays where it was.
The result is a prompt Claude actually parses well — not just a longer version of what you typed.
Why the distinction matters
BoltAI gives you a better place to talk to AI. Prompt Enhancer makes what you say to AI structurally sound.
Most developers already have Claude Code, Cursor, or a browser tab open. They do not need another chat surface. They need their prompts to stop being vague.
Anthropic’s XML format — the one Claude is trained to follow — has a specific shape. <role> sets context. <context> establishes background. <task> is precise. <output_format> constrains the response. Writing that by hand every time is tedious. That is the single problem Prompt Enhancer solves.
Price
Prompt Enhancer: $29 one-time (lifetime). No subscription, no renewal, no annual fee.
BoltAI Essential: $69 one-time (includes 1 year of updates; renew at a discount after that).
Both are native Swift apps with no Electron overhead.
Free options
Prompt Enhancer ships with 3 free enhancements — no signup, no credit card — then a 7-day free trial. With a Pro license you can use BYOK (your own Anthropic API key): traffic goes directly to api.anthropic.com, stored in macOS Keychain, zero proxy.
BoltAI requires you to bring your own API keys regardless of plan.
When to choose BoltAI
- You want one app to access GPT-4o, Claude, Gemini, and local models in a single UI.
- You want chat history, thread forking, vision, and PDF analysis.
- You switch between multiple AI providers throughout the day.
BoltAI is a mature product with a real feature set. It earns its $69.
When to choose Prompt Enhancer as your BoltAI alternative
- You already have Claude Code, Cursor, or Claude.ai open all day.
- You write prompts in those tools and get mediocre results because the structure is off.
- You want drafts to become structured Anthropic XML prompts without leaving the app you are in.
- You want to pay once, under $30, and own it forever.

Honest caveats
- Prompt Enhancer launched on 2026-05-27 and has no track record yet. BoltAI is a mature, established product.
- The macOS DMG is Apple-notarized since June 2026 — installs without Gatekeeper warnings. The Windows installer is code-signing-in-progress (SmartScreen shows a one-time “unknown publisher” prompt; click More info → Run anyway).
- BoltAI supports 300+ models across all major providers. Prompt Enhancer only applies Anthropic’s XML structure — it is not a model switcher or AI client.
- BoltAI has vision, PDF analysis, multi-chat threads, thread forking, and AI dictation. Prompt Enhancer has none of these — it does one thing only.
- Linux is not available for Prompt Enhancer (Q3 2026 waitlist). BoltAI is macOS-only.
- BoltAI’s Essential license ($69) includes 1 year of updates and cloud sync; after that, a renewal discount applies. Prompt Enhancer is $29 lifetime with no renewal.
